Emerald SEA

Since I’m from the Emerald City, I find it timely to mention the green year that’s upon us. PANTONE has declared 2013 the Emerald Year and in celebration of this awesome color choice, everyone should go outside and do a rain dance (it’s what keeps everything so green!).

Seattle Green Scene

1. The Space Needle was recently repainted an Emerald-y hue in honor of it's 50th birthday. Nicole Commins is the first ever Seattleite to have her personal design displayed atop the Needle. Aptly named "Trees", the top of the needle will remain evergreen until April 21st, 2013.

2. The passing of I-502 in the November Election has legalized marijuana in Washington. Get your green card, eat some edibles and go crazy (but not too crazy). Read the Seattle PD's Marijwhatnow? blog post for a rundown of Seattle's new green policies and a good laugh.

3. After much deliberation and lots of fiscal investment, a Seattle-based group led by Chris Hansen, Steve Ballmer, and Erik and Peter Nordstrom have purchased the Sacramento Kings and are bringing the SuperSonics back to Seattle. Read more here.

4. Last but not least, Bartell Drugs released the Limited Edition "Fremont Troll" Chia Pet. What's more green than that?

Here's a trailer for "Oz the Great and Powerful". With a cast like this one, (James Franco, Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams, Rachel Weisz and Zach Braff) this adaptation of L. Frank Baum's classic story is bound to be spectacular.
